As your surveyor I travel between Seattle and Blaine at no extra charge (arrangements can be made for longer distances) and I will be happy to meet you wherever the boat is moored, docked or stored. You preferably, or your representative must be present during the survey so that I can point findings out to you and answer any questions that you may have. You have to see what I see that way when you receive the survey it has much more meaning to you.

Barrie Arnett has been in the Marine Business since 1974 having retired from the automotive industry after 22 years with Volkswagen, Porsche & Audi.  Mr. Arnett started a marine business at this time, specializing in marine refrigeration dual hold-over-plate systems.  He also supervised the maintenance repair of mechanical and electrical systems for both power and sailing vessels. Mr. Arnett worked part time for Foss Maritime Company, Environmental Division as engineer & master of an oil skimmer. Barrie Arnett has delivered & skippered vessels along the Pacific Coast from La Paz, Mexico to Alaska and as well as many the East Coast ports of the United States.

Mr. Arnett has been surveying professionally since 1993. In 1995 he received his full accreditation (Accredited Marine Surveyor SAMS® AMS #352) as a marine surveyor from the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors.  Arnett was a member of the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association (NYBA) where he served as an active member of the Marine Surveyor Committee.  This committee developed the first set of standards in the nation for marine surveying.  While the "Elements of a Good Purchase Survey" are not as comprehensive as the SAMS® "Recommended Survey Report Content For Yachts And Small Craft", both documents serve our customers very well.

Personal Background

Barrie Arnett has been a boater since the 1940's & 1950’s. In those early days it was sailing in an El Toro, Blanchard-knock-abouts, and Evergreens.  Later in 1959 he purchased a 52' wood cutter which he cruised in northwest waters until 1971 and lived aboard for 9 of those years.  In 1970 he had built and supervised the construction of a fiberglass Spencer 53 center cockpit ketch in Vancouver, British Columbia.  He & his wife cruised this vessel extensively for the next twenty years over 54,000 miles. There were passages to California, French Polynesia, Hawaii, Alaska, and numerous 3-month summer trips to British Columbia and Alaska. In 1991 Arnett moved ashore and purchased Spencer 42 sloop, which he and his wife continue to cruise to this day.
